Removing a Tattoo with Salabrasion

People have been getting tattoos for more than 4,000 years and they have been trying to remove them for just as long. There are many different techniques that can be used to remove a tattoo. Salabrasion is one method that is used to remove tattoos. Salabrasion is an older, undesirable method of removing tattoos. That being said, people still use it today. It should always be done by a professional.

Salabrasion is an effective method for getting rid of unwanted tattoos. It involves a salt water solution and abrasion. Before using this technique to remove your unwanted ink you should learn more about it.

To use salabrasion to remove your unwanted tattoo you need three things, plain table salt, water and an abrasive device. When you have salabrasion done professionally you are also sometimes administered a local anesthetic to ease any pain or discomfort that comes from the procedure. Each salabrasion session takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes.

Before you can start a salabrasion session you need to shave the tattooed area if there is any hair covering the tattoo. After the hair is removed you can start the removal process. You start by applying the salt mixed with water to the tattooed area. Then, you use the abrasive device to rub the skin vigorously. You will keep rubbing the area until it becomes deep, blood red.

Once you are done applying abrasion to the area you need to apply an antibiotic ointment to it. Then, cover the area with a sterile gauze dressing. This gauze dressing should be left in place for three days after your salabrasion procedure.

After three days has passed the gauze dressing should be removed. Another salabrasion treatment should be done. In this treatment the tattooed area will be covered in a salt solution for several hours. After several hours an antibiotic ointment is applied and the area is again covered with a sterile gauze bandage. It will need to heal for three more days.

Remove the gauze after the second three days of healing time. At this time the skin will be leathery and have a rough texture. The skin that was salabrated will begin to separate from the healthy skin beneath it within one to five days. It will pull the tattoo pigment away with it.

As the skin heals you will notice that the tattoo is no longer visible. If the tattoo is still visible you may need more salabrasion treatments. In most cases more than one round of salabrasion is required to completely remove a tattoo. It should be noted that salabrasion almost always leaves behind a scar.
